The Journey
Life is a journey from the time we are born to until we breathe our last. What happens on the journey is all part of the adventure of living. Along the way it is choices, our own and other peoples, that impact our journey the most. Everyday we wake up there are choices to be made. Some are so small, we don’t even realize we are making a choice. Other choices, life changing in nature, can seem to bring time to a stand still until a decision is made.
Have you ever stopped to ponder, what are the most important decisions you’ve made in your life? Take a few minutes to think back over your life to this point. As you consider your journey thus far, where have the crossroads been where you had to choose which road to follow? What has happened since? If you could do it over again, would you choose the same road? The poet, Robert Frost (1874–1963), once composed the well-known poem entitled, “The Road Not Taken.” Think about your choices as you read his well chosen words.
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
